Latest Happenings in the EPCOT Showcase
Work on stage one has commenced and for the first few months, EcoNorfolk has been working on the background and research component of the EPCOT showcase.
A Flora survey by Kevin Mills & Associates, the draft Natural Resource Management Plan by Judd Kilkenny and the architectural drawing by Slovenian Marco Prestor are elemental components that have been completed to date.

The primary goal of Stage 1 is revegetation activities and with the assistance of Envirofund this has already begun. The planting of over 800 of the 1000 pines dedicated to Mathis Wackernagel took place in July and August 2007. These trees were planted by dedicated volunteers such as visiting Lions Club International members from New Zealand, international Wwoofers (Willing Workers on Organic farms), and Pam and Pat Miller from the Eagle Hill Organic Farm in Western Australia.
The project site has already undertaken significant manual clearing of the area, including removal of woody and herbaceous weeds. Chipping and mulching of the site has also commenced. It is important to note that all activities undertaken are chemical free due to the wish to gain organic certification of the property.
The showcase site has also seen a visit from inventor Bruno Wittner, a solar pump and solar energy expert, who came to discuss solar options with EcoNorfolk and also to consult with local farmers and residents looking to alternative power sources.
The EPCOT Showcase has so far seen willing workers from Japan, Slovenia, Sweden, Holland and Germany, who work alongside with Norfolk Islanders.
Further updates and progress reports will be on this site when available.
